Education/Background:
I graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work from Colorado State University in 2007 and a Masters of Social Work from University of Maryland, Baltimore in 2010. I have over 15 years experience working in outpatient community mental health including in home, school and residential services with children, teens and adults coping with anxiety, depression, trauma and other difficulities related to life transitions such as divorce, daily life stressors, grief and loss. I have been a Board Certified Social Work Supervisor since 2015, a Registered Play Therapist since 2017 and a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor since 2023. I opened L.E.A.P. Counseling in 2019 with the vision of creating a safe and welcoming environment where every individual is encouraged to be themselves!
Therapy Approach:
I strive to develop genuine and collaborative relationships with clients and families. My approach to therapy is strengths based, creative, compassionate and adaptable to whatever you need for you! I work closely with families and focus on the importance of relationships, building self worth and creating/maintaining peace at home. Caregiver involvement is essential in my work with children. I provide parents and/or caregivers with skills to utilize at home as well as insight and a better understanding of what your child may be experiencing.
As a registered play therapist, I primarily use play in my work with children ages 3-12. Play therapy offers children a safe environment to explore complex emotions and work through difficult experiences in an age appropriate way.
